Today’s Mani: Ninja Polish Color Changing Garnet (over Urban Outfitters Blue Velvet)
[polishes used: Orly Bonder, 2 coats Blue Velvet, 2 coats Color Changing Garnet, Gelous, Poshé]
Shade: Urban Outfitters Blue Velvet is a bright blue creme. It’s darker and a bit less vibrant than Nails Inc Baker Street. Ninja Polish Color Changing Garnet is a clear base with multichrome shimmer and glitter in it. The glitter isn’t as multichrome as the shimmer; it goes from a pinkish red to orange to copper to gold. The shift of the shimmer is near-identical to Fantasy Fire et. al., but the red pulls a bit pinker and the green a bit bluer. Under water the shift goes NUTS and pulls all the way to an actual blue at certain angles, but this doesn’t happen in any other circumstance.
Application: Blue Velvet was easy to apply. It was a bit thin and I had some subtle bald spots at 2 coats, but since I was using it as a base for another polish that didn’t matter much. It dried on the quicker side of average to an ever-so-slightly satiny finish. Color Changing Garnet was also easy to apply, though a bit difficult to clean up because of the little glitters. I think next time, I’ll try to find a one-coater to put this over so I can use 3 coats of it instead of two, as I think it’d look better that way. Drytime was average, though it was chilly in my nail-doing-room last night and that probably affected that. The finish is a tad bumpy because of the glitters, so I used Gelous and Poshé to make sure everything would be 100% smooth.
